Sony Music have been criticised for increasing the price of Whitney Houston's albums

  • February 13, 2012
  • Brad O'Mance

Sony Music has been heavily criticised after the company increased the price of Whitney Houston's back catalogue hours after her death.

The Guardian reports that the decision to increase the wholesale price of her 'The Ultimate Collection' album was made at 4am California time on Sunday and resulted in the price increasing on UK iTunes from £4.99 to £7.99.

By boosting the wholesale price the album's retail price at iTunes was automatically increased.

A label insider denied the move was "cynical" and said that it was part of a general reappraisal of Houston's back catalogue.
