John Legend has replaced Lionel Richie on that Duets show

  • May 1, 2012
  • Brad O'Mance

John Legend has replaced Lionel Richie as a 'mentor' on new American talent show Duets, after Richie dropped out due to "personal scheduling conflicts".

Despite only being considered fifth choice (at best) for a role on the show, Legend is thrilled to be part of Duets and is looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there, with Ace Showbiz reporting him as saying: "I'm thrilled to be part of Duets, and I'm looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there."

Duets, which will begin on May 24 on ABC, will also feature three other 'mentors': Kelly Clarkson (amazing), Robin Thicke and someone called Jennifer Nettles.

In a clever play on the title of the programme, Ledge and Co will each select two duet partners at the auditions stage, and will sing with one each week until the winner is picked. The prize for that winner will be a deal with Hollywood Records, home to artists as diverse as Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and, once upon a time, the Jonas Brothers.
