Booze has helped Marina & The Diamonds embrace pop

  • January 4, 2012
  • Mikey

Marina & The Diamonds has admitted that alcohol helped her loosen up and embrace a pop sound on her delayed second album.

Speaking about pop music in general she said: "I didn't enjoy it and I didn't go out. I was so focussed on making it, I wasn't very good at socialising. Then I discovered alcohol and it was like, oh my god, my life's changed."

Fuelled by the burgeoning discovery of Jäger bombs and blue WKD, Marina promises her new sound is "much more electronic".

She told andPOP.com: "I had a stick up my arse before about pop and not-pop but I've basically done everything that I didn't on the first album — the absolute opposite. I'm a total hypocrite".
