Will Young in a photo booth: good advert

  • September 30, 2008

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLctmzZWqsg

From the 'Leave Right Now' video to the brilliant TV ads that accompanied his last album (or maybe the one before — you know, the ads in the cafe) Will Young has defined an interesting and unusual visual identity, and the television ad campaign for his new album continues the trend. (We like the simple but amazing loading screen for his new website, too.)

In the ad above Will comes across as approachable, friendly, fun and down to earth. It's an important move because the more you begin to seem aloof or pretentious — as Will sometimes does — or like the sort of person who'd be rude and dismissive if a fan went up and introduced themselves, the more important it is to suggest to people that you are not. The advert is brilliant. It even includes a BLACK MAN!!!! As well as making Will seem likeable the ad is a brilliant and all-inclusive way to help ease Will even further into Simply Red market, so it's mission accomplished on all counts.

('Grace' is the best song on the album FYI.)
