New Music Friday: from Zara Larsson x2 to Feist, and the songs in between

  • March 17, 2017
  • Popjustice

Song of the week:
Zara Larsson — 'Only You'
Unfortunately the Zara album's an overcooked mess but 'Only You' hits the bullseye and strikes a mesmerising balance between 'Lush Life' and the elegant, pensive pop of her 2014 debut album '1'.

Wrong of the week:
Feist — 'Pleasure'
We can only assume this is a joke.

Additional notes:

  • Jesus! Pitbull has a great knack for being totally predictable but in the most shocking way possible and he's really pulled it out of the bag with his new album. Points worth noting: the J.Lo collaboration 'Sexy Body' uses exactly the same hook as Zara Larsson's 'I Would Like', as in, it's not a cheeky homage, it's literally the same hook. Hilarious! Elsewhere we find — and this is really quite something — Kiesza popping up 'We Are Strong', which is a tropical version of Pat Benatar's 80s banger 'Love Is A Battlefield'.
  • THE SOUND OF ARROWS ARE BACK and they've made the best Take That single since 'The Flood'.
  • Joe Goddard's having a busy year: this week he's following 'Music Is The Answer' with 'Home' and there's a Hot Chip remix of the Katy Perry single (!?) knocking around too.
  • Extremely brilliant, Jonas Quant-collaborating singer of song Esther Vallee returns with a big pop moment in the shape of 'Crush (Heartbreaker)'.
