Five key releases from the next five weeks

  • August 3, 2015
  • Popjustice

Pop does not stop: a phrase that rhymes but is also true. Indeed music of the popular variety will never stop. It is relentless, it is powerful, it will outlive every one of us.

Every week they come: songs that will excite, amaze and appall. Songs that will stay with us throughout our lives; songs that will stay with us for the blink of an eye. Songs that will [GET ON WITH IT — ED]

Here's some stuff coming out in the next few weeks. As ever, the list has been nicked off the UKMix forum.

Out this week: Rachel Platten — 'Fight Song'

We hear that when buying a bracelet the singer of this song likes a thin layer of expensive metal to cover a less expensive metal. She likes gold platten. We hear that when in a recent argument, the singer of this song was told that her foe would sit on her. It was a Platten flatten threaten situation. We hear that a Greek philosopher recently returned from the dead to draw a repeating picture of the singer of this song standing on a dwarf planet. It was a Plato Pluto Platten pattern.

Also out on August 7:
Afrojack feat Mike Taylor – SummerThing!
Charlie Puth feat Meghan Trainor — Marvin Gaye ← Good to see Meghan back with a new song!
Grades — King
Meghan Trainor feat John Legend — Like I’m Gonna Lose You ← Good to see Meghan back with a new song!
Only The Young — I Do ← Shame really, oh well
Roisin Murphy — Evil Eyes
Sarah Harding – Threads ← Look at least she's releasing something, that's more than Robbo's doing

Out on August 14: Arches feat Karen Harding — 'New Love'

This seems, for the first forty seconds, as if it will be a complete non-event, and the off-the-shelf video certainly doesn't do the song any favours. But when the chorus hits this song explodes. All told it's not as good as the Jess Glynne song but… Sorry, we're just distracted by how terrible this video is. We hadn't seen it before we embedded it just now. Good bloody grief. How much do you reckon they charged for that video? Anything upwards of £1200 was taking the piss. This has actually made us go off the song a bit. OH WELL.

Also out on August 14:
Diztortion feat Sasha Keable & Stylo G — Put Your Love On Me
FFS — Call Girl
Jess Glynne — Don't Be So Hard On Yourself ← This is such an amazing song
Madcon feat Ray Dalton – Don't Worry
Maroon 5 — This Summer ← This is also amazing but there's no way we're making a Maroon 5 single the pick of the week
Martin Solveig & GTA — Intoxicated
Paul Morrell feat Kimberley Wyatt – Givin' It Up
Rita Ora feat Chris Brown — Body On Me ← Good to see Rita sticking to that 'all girls together' thing
Tough Love feat Ginuwine – Pony (Jump On It)

Out on August 21: Felix Jaehn feat Jasmine Thompson — 'Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)'

Pop Law states that all music will explode unless a version of 'Ain't Nobody' is recorded and released every eight years. This time the job of pushing the button falls to Felix Jaehn. Over 50m people have watched this video. That's 105,902 days humanity has lost to this song. Imagine if that time had been spent building houses. So much homelessness could have been ended by now. So many poems could have been written. Think of the bridges you could build in that time. The River Thames could be entirely 'bridged over' by now.

Also out on August 21:
Angel feat Fuse ODG — Leyla
Ella Eyre – Good Times
Sage The Gemini feat Nick Jonas – Good Thing

Out on August 28: Demi Lovato — 'Cool For The Summer'

Will we ever tire of finding new excuses to post the 'Cool For The Summer' video? DOUBTFUL. Note that the UK release has now come forward a few weeks so 'Cool For The Summer' will now be out in the summer, and is therefore virtually guaranteed to hit 'the top spot'.

Also out on August 28:
Alexa Goddard – We Broke The Sky ← Try unplugging the box at the wall and if problems persist consider moving to VirginMedia
George Ezra — Barcelona
JessMattic – Higher
Justin Bieber — What Do You Mean ← There's every chance this will be amazing
Krishane feat Shaggy — Money Can't Buy No Love
LunchMoney Lewis — Heartbreak Season
Preditah feat Yasmin – Supernaturally
Stylo G feat Gyptian — Number 1

Out on September 4: Nero – 'Two Minds'

A very good song from a very good album.

Also out on September 4:
American Authors — Go Big Or Go Home
DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge — You Know You Like It
Ella Eyre – Swing Low Sweet Chariot ← Fucking hell
Fuse ODG – Top Of My Charts
Hozier – From Eden ← Oh dear
Klingande — Riva (Restart The Game)
Natalie La Rose feat Fetty Wap — Around The World  ← Possibly the most underwhelming follow-up single of the last 18 months
Sigala – Easy Love

Bonus song whose release date we don't know: Becky Hill — 'All My Love'

Strictly speaking this is 'Watermat' featuring Becky Hill and Tai but if you bin off any notion of this being 2015's twelve millionth 'collab' record and instead just think of it as an exciting single by an exceptional popstar things get a LOT easier. However you think of it, 'All My Love' should be Number One for precisely two weeks.

And there we have it. Anything else we should be getting excited about? Drop us a line.
