The salient points

• Charli XCX is often referred to as a proponent of "goth pop", which we think just means she wears a lot of black and doesn't lie around in the sun very much.


• Apparently she's been in bands since she was seven years old and recorded her debut album at the tender age of fourteen, except despite some early interest and 'buzz' not very much happened so she sort of took some time out, got her shit together and decided to be completely amazing.


• The album was funded by her parents. She paid them back.


• Her first 'proper' single 'Stay Away' was highly listenable.


• As was the follow-up 'Nuclear Seasons'. The video, however, was a bit shit.
