One of Miley Cyrus' new albums isn't really a Miley Cyrus album at all :(

  • August 25, 2015
  • Brad O'Mance

Miley

Apparently one of Miley Cyrus' forthcoming new albums isn't a "a Miley record", which is a bit confusing.

Basically, as well as working on her own album, the 'Adore You' hitmaker has also been working on a project with persistent pop ruiners the Flaming Lips.

In a recent interview with Marie Claire she said she wanted to give that album away for free and that if her label, RCA, didn't like that then she would buy herself out of the contract.

A close personal friend of Cyrus' then got in touch with Billboard to clear some things up about it all.

“It’s not a Miley record,” the 'source' explained. "It’s a project she’s been working on with the Flaming Lips. It’s amazing, it’s incredible, it just needs to be understood that it’s not a typical, straightforward Miley record — we don’t want there to be confusion in the marketplace.”

Heaven forbid.

Asked what it sounded like he/she said the following things:

“It is somewhat psychedelic rock, but Miley’s writing sensibilities lean toward pop, so it’s a nice, healthy mix of both. But at the end of the day, it is Miley.”

Is she super-excited about it though?

“She’s super-excited about it. The Flaming Lips are her favorite band and she’s wanted to work with them her entire life. I think people are really going to be surprised.”

As far as leaving RCA goes, well that's just not true.

“RCA has been a phenomenal partner,” he/she continued. “They let an artist be an artist, and there’s zero animosity. They’ve been a part of this every step of the way."

We wonder if this unnamed source speaking to Billboard is affiliated to any particular record label? WE WILL NEVER KNOW.
