Olly Murs will be singing at the Radio 1 Big Weekend thing in Londonderry in May

  • January 31, 2013
  • Brad O'Mance

Olly MursOlly Murs is the first act (alongside Two Door Cinema Club but they don't really count) to be added to the lineup for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend thing this May, it's been announced.

The annual event has been expanded to three days and will now take place between May 24 — 26 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

Your friend and ours Jason Carter, who as we all know is the BBC's Head of Live Music and Events, Popular Music (!),  had this to say about it all:

"The last Big Weekend in the city in 2004 was a legendary music moment in Northern Ireland and it's so great to be able to return with an even bigger show second time around."

You might want to keep your eyes glued to the internet for updates about who's performing given that it hardly ever gets mentioned on Radio 1. It's usually very low-key. Sometimes they even forget to mention it.
