Emeli Sandé struggled to be taken seriously at first

  • December 13, 2011
  • Brad O'Mance

Emeli Sandé has talked about the difficulties she faced trying to make it as a popstar.

In an interview with Star Playlist, Sandé says the song 'Clown' on her forthcoming debut album is about "it being hard to get a deal, finding it hard to find people in the industry who were interested in me".

She continues: "People always laugh at you when you’re trying to be creative or achieve something and putting yourself out there so it’s me saying I’m prepared to be the clown."

Still, if it hadn't worked out, she could have just carried on with the whole writing songs for other people thing. “It was never a struggle as a songwriter because I think I was doing something that no-one else was," she says.
