The new Sugababes single has massively split opinion.
The obvious problem with 'Get Sexy' is that it's a song about being sexy in a club but its lyrics seem to have been written by a twelve-year-old who had never been inside a club or had any experÂiÂence of sex or sexuality. The rest of it? Sounds pretty great to these ears, but some fans are LITERALLY ON THE RAMPAGE. Part of this, we feel, is to do with a slight misÂunÂderÂstandÂing re what the track is trying to do. Part of it is down to comÂpletely underÂstandÂing what the track is trying to do and just not really thinking it's all that good.
But the question is: what did you want the single to sound like, and who did you want the band to work with?
The Rules (according to 'the internet' and 'mesÂsageÂboards')
1. It can't sound like anything that's currently a hit for someone else — because that would mean the Sugababes were following someone else's style.
2. It has to sound like 'Overload', 'Hole In The Head' and 'About You Now' but it can't sound like anything the Sugababes have done before — because that would mean the Sugababes were retreadÂing former glories and weren't moving on. In parÂticÂuÂlar it can't sound like the last album (which people think was a mistake), but it also can't NOT sound like the last album (because that would be admitting that the last album was a mistake).
3. It has to sound like the Sugababes.
