Popworldcupjustice: Switzerland vs Ecuador

worldcupthing2header

SWITZERLAND V ECUADOR

Guest referee: Jessica Pinkett — Founder, This Must Be Pop

Switzerland32 Mr. Da-nos, The Product G&B & Maury — ‘Summer Nights In Brazil’

“As you probably guessed from the title, this is Switzerland’s attempt at a 2014 World Cup anthem. Mr Da-nos (the DJ/producer behind the track) seems to have taken this task as permission to rip off the riff from a Brazilian song, 'Ai Se Eu Te Pego' by Michel Teló, which was huge everywhere but the UK last year. Unfortunately, the result is rather less charming than Michel’s hit single, as Mr D has added autotuned R&B vocals from US duo The Product G&B and a verse from an ageing bald rapper (I guess they couldn’t afford the real Pitbull).”

Ecuador32 Delfin — ‘Vamos Al Mundial’

“Not being aware of any other Ecuadorian artists, it’s hard to put this into context, so I’m genuinely not sure if Delfin is Ecuador’s answer to PSY or a serious act. For all I know, this may be the height of cool in Ecuador. Either way, it’s highly entertaining and absurd. The most bizarre moment of the music video is when Delfin’s mobile number comes up on screen, along with his Twitter and other contact details. I might give him a call and ask if does dance lessons — I’m quite jealous of his moves."

Jessica's full time score:

Switzerland 0 — Ecuador 1
