Meanwhile, in a branch of Tile Magic…

Another week, and with it another release from Alexandra Burke's apparently bottomless 'Overcome' album.

This time the single chosen for release is 'The Silence'. Only last week we were chatting, as one does, with someone about how impressive it was that Burko had got through an entire album campaign without knocking out a ballad but here one is to finish off the campaign. "If it's the end then please just make it fast," Alexandra sings.  78 beats per minute is not fast, Alexandra. It is not fast at all in fact but we are prepared to overlook this because  'The Silence' is quite an amazing ballad. Which stands to reasons since it 'takes its cues' from approximately five million
other ballads, creating a sort of Dr Frankenballad's Monster  poised to run amok in the charts until it is eventually hounded from pop by angry torch-waving villagers.

Anyway, for the video — which as per Ye Olde Law Of Ye Ballade comes in black and white — Alexandra went down to her local bathroom DIY superstore.

<a href="http://video.msn.com/?mkt=en-gb&from=sp&fg=shareObject&vid=4be01b8d-c90e-48df-ac2b-2bab963f5fef" target="_new" title="Exclusive: Alexandra Burke - The Silence">Video: Exclusive: Alexandra Burke - The Silence</a>

Only a few days from now will Alexandra realise her mistake: those black tiles will be a nightmare for limescale if, indeed, she lives in a hard water area. If Alexandra does not in fact live in a hard water area we apologise for any offence caused but we just had her best interests at heart.

One of the most amazing things about the video is that Alexandra 'does a Sinead O'Connor' (or at least 'does a Kelly Rowland') and has a bit of a blub when it all gets too much.

Popstars crying in videos can be very useful for the viewer — it helps us know when the lyrics 'n' tune are getting Really Important And Emotional.
