Humour Update

  • April 21, 2009
  • Popjustice

Just so you know, we made a hilarious joke about La Roux on Twitter last night. You see the new series of Ashes To Ashes started on BBC1 yesterday evening and in reference to La Roux's 'In For The Kill' video and general visual identity we posted a Tweet when it started at 9pm saying 'Don't think much of the new La Roux video', except the big joke was that we were in fact watching Ashes To Ashes. We had deliberately misidentified a TV programme set in the 1980s to comic effect. As you can imagine, it was hilarious. One thing looked like the 1980s, you see, while the other thing looked like the 1980s. But one was not the other — the other one was. BASICALLY, La Roux is styled to look like she is from the 80s, just like Ashes To Ashes (which is set in the 80s). Ashes To Ashes was on the TV last night but the new La Roux video wasn't. 'In For The Kill' might have been, on the video channels, but that wouldn't have worked as well. Particularly because Version 1.0 of last night's joke, which we unveiled half an hour before the joke menbtioned above, had already made reference to the 'In For The Kill' video. In Version 1.0, we Tweeted a comment at half past eight, saying that the BBC were weirdly showing Ashes To Ashes half an hour earlier than advertised. Then, with hilarious consequences, we Tweeted that we had made a mistake and were simply watching the La Roux video instead. In many ways the 8.30pm airing of the joke could be seen as the 'pilot episode', whereas the 9pm broadcast was the 'proper' joke.
