How promotional photography works, with Mariah Carey

  • March 18, 2008
  • Popjustice

This is a photograph of Mariah Carey.

mariah carey naked behind a hat, slightly oddly

It is the photograph on the sleeve of her new single 'Touch My Body'. But why is she doing that thing with the hat? Well you see it makes gentlemen think "if she removed the hat I would be able to see her baps and flange — therefore I will buy her new record". It also makes ladies think "put it away love", but men are more important than women when it comes to record sales because men are better at their jobs, consequently are paid more to do them and therefore have more disposable income with which to buy compacts discs. (And downloads.)

Beyond the obvious marketing genius involved in this shot there is a practical element to this odd example of hat-wearing, too — Mariah loses 40% of her body heat through her breasts.

(If you would like to watch her talking about her new video, you can do so here.)
