Gulls allowed: it's the new Ronika video

  • April 3, 2012
  • Brad O'Mance

If you woke up this morning hoping that today would bring a video for Ronika's out-next-Monday new single 'Automatic', and that the video would continue her VHS-graded 'aesthetic', and that it would feature Ronika standing around a bit with her hand on her hip, and that it would also feature some stock footage of 'surf action', and that a large 'A' would also appear once or twice, and that the video would not pass without some seagull action, and that there would be some flashing lights, and that there would be a few bits where Ronika looks just like Madonna (but also some bits where she doesn't), and that the whole thing would be a rather splendid accompaniment to the summery sounds of the song, you are in luck. Because here is a video for Ronika's out-next-Monday new single 'Automatic', which continues her VHS-graded 'aesthetic', features Ronika standing around a bit with her hand on her hip, also features some stock footage of 'surf action', includes a large 'A' appearing once or twice, does not pass without some seagull action, has some flashing lights, boasts a few bits where Ronika looks just like Madonna (but also some bits where she doesn't), and is a rather splendid accompaniment to her summery sounds of the song.

Here is some stuff that Ronika sent over with the video.

» "Ronika trained in Hawaii for 8 months to prepare for this surfing themed video."

(We would have hyphenated 'surfing themed' but not to worry.)

» "She studied the ancient art of honoring the waves under the instruction of an 70 year old highly unqualified bus-driver."

(Interesting, is it not, that Ronika hyphenates 'bus-driver' but not '70 year old'.)

» "Surfing gave her hair spray a renewed sense of purpose.

(We'd say 'hairspray' is one word to be honest but there you go.)

» She is developing her own brand of surf-board that comes with a pull-out dinner tray."

(Isn't 'surfboard' one word too? We'd say the same for 'pullout' too, really.)

» "Ronika is scared of the big waves but also scared of the little waves."

» "She is also deeply superstitious about the sea and will never go in it without first throwing in some ham sandwiches.

» She has never killed and eaten a sea gull except twice.

(ALRIGHT JESUS CHRIST 'SEAGULL' IS DEFINITELY ONE WORD.)

» "She produced and edited the video while sam potter from Late of the Pier and John Sampson from Swimming filmed it. now nobody is willing to take responsibility for it."

We are not-convinced that allthese 'facts' are 100% correct. What do you think, readers?
