Erik Hassle: he's a serious young man you know

  • September 22, 2009
  • Popjustice

Erik Hassle's 'Hurtful' is the acceptable sound of emo and it's out as a UK single at some point in the not too distant future, having already done the business for Erik back home in Sweden.

'Hurtful' was the first Erik song we heard and it encouraged us to investigate the album which, in turn, was very fantastic indeed.

As a single its release comes with various remixes (you can taste them on his website — they're a bit ropey to be honest and the Penguin Prison one is probably the best of a bad lot) as well as a video that is all very serious and tortured.

That was the video. Do you like the way Island snuck a Mika commercial into their embeddable player? Brilliant.

Video highlights:

» Sitting on a staircase — dangerous, potential fire hazard, will be asked to move.
» Staring at flickering TV screens, v moody and emo.
» Direct and spooky eye contact with camera.
» Hair like a Weetabix.
» Walking around at night: pensive.
» Reel to reel tape: AUTHENTIC.
» Reading a book: man of words.
» Payphone action in bedsit scenario: overdoing the point slightly.

You feel like a lie down after all that emotion, don't you. Not a great way to start the day, 'apols'.
