Apropos of nothing: James Blunt's '1973'. What a massive, massive tune

This track was on 'Smooth Radio' last night.

It was the first time we'd heard it in some time — well over a year — and it struck us, as we washed up some cutlery, what an incredible and pwoerful song this is. It contains all the best bits of a great pop song: wistfulness, nostalgia and references to dancing, music making the people come together and happier times, all with a very slight sense of emo clinginess and possible 'you really have to stop phoning me now' tendencies.

Do you remember when it came out and we were like 'it would be amazing if there was a dance remix of this', and then there was a dance remix, and it was shit? They were bleak days, viewers. Bleak days.
