A member of the world's biggest pop group is computer generated

  • June 29, 2011
  • Owen Myers

The newest member of the Japanese pop group AKB48 has been revealed as a CGI blend of her fellow bandmates.

'Eguchi Ami' was introduced as the newest member of the supergroup with an an unprecedented push, immediately gracing the cover of 'Weekly Playboy' and becoming the 'face' of 'Aisu no Mi', a type of sweet.

However, it's now been announced that  'Eguchi Ami' is a computer blend of six current AKB48 members. The band have released a video showing how she was created for the publicity stunt, and there is also an application on their website for you to create your own AK48 pop star.

The all-female 'theatre/idol group' consists of a rotating cast of 48 members, who are divided into four performance groups. This is in order to cope with their intense schedule, which includes several performances a day, as well as TV appearances and product endorsements.
