"Love, there's a little bit of something on the side of your mouth…"

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX0qI8Ixit0

We're trying very hard — harder than some — not to slip into full on full-on "GAGA LOL" moron mode every time she opens her mouth but footage like this MTV press conference is definitely worthy of attention, if not a round of applause. Still not quite as layered as it thinks it is but still about five times as clever as its nearest competitor, Gaga's campaign makes more and more sense, and becomes more and more real (or, to cynics, more and more 'convincing'), as the weeks tick by. Amazingly — quite daringly — just as what has come before pulls into focus Gaga's begins to reveal new twists and turns to what she's doing, staying ahead of any commentary and second guessing a celebrity culture which relies on speculation. Three weeks ago her tits exploded, now she's holding press conferences like this. This is the arse-end of the album campaign, when most artists take their foot off the gas and coast to a slow, gradual stop on the nearest pop layby. Gaga's got a brick on the accelerator pedal while she does something unspeakable with a model on the back seat. At the very least this latest look seems like a solid attempt at living Madonna's career on fast forward — Gaga's already covered most of the signature elements of the entire 'Immaculate Collection' era and she's not even finished promoting her first album. She'll have thrown herself off a Shetland pony by the end of the summer, mark our words…
