Amazing news! After a bit of a chat with Madge's people they've sensationally lifted the album review embargo for our benefit.
That is the good news.
Unfortunately we were in such a huff about the whole embargo business at the playback that we didn't make proper notes and, as it happens, we've left the notes we did make at home.
But here is what we have to say about 'Confessions On A Dancefloor'.
1. It's pop music that sounds like dance music.
2. It's dance music that sounds like pop music.
3. It's the best dance music that sounds like pop music album of 2005.
4. It's the second best pop music that sounds like dance music album of 2005.
5. Scoring so highly in both categories means that 'Confessions' is probably THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR. (Smallprint: This is based on listening to the album at the playback where there were lots of exciting flashing lights to make us think 'Ooh this is a bit like being on enjoyable rave drugs and everything is therefore brilliant'.)
That's really all you need to know, although it's worth adding that one of the songs sounds like Kylie's 'Light Years' and the nods to 'West End Girls' and 'Paninaro' in other bits of the album are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Basically the whole thing sounds precisely how you'd want a 2005 Madonna album to sound. Madge is back etc etc etc.
Perhaps we should have stuck to reviewing the goodie bag. :(
Coming this Friday:
A Popjustice interview with Madge production genius Stuart Price.
Read about how Madonna gets stains out of carpet - and, quite hilariously, find out how Popjustice directly influenced the sound of the new album. Hurrah!
