Marlene — 'Sweet'

  • August 25, 2016
  • Popjustice

Persistently excellent Stockholm-based pop inventor Marlene returns tomorrow with 'Sweet'. Except she also sort of returns today because here's the 'Sweet' video, which you are going to 'love'. Love being a score in tennis OH PLEASE YOURSELVES.

That 'Sweet' is a sophisticated laid-back summer pop jam will come as a surprise to precisely nobody: previous releases like 'Indian Summer' and 'Stay Awake', and this year's 'All I Want', have all found Marlene establishing herself as one of pop's brightest and most engaging independent artists. It's all on Spotify.

But what — and this is the big question — does Marlene have to say about this video? You're in luck ladies and gentleman because a quote answering that very question has made its way to Popjustice's inbox.

”I played tennis for a couple of years when I was younger and it is the only sport I have ever really loved. The same day as we had written 'Sweet' I sat at home listening to the song in my headphones and when I closed my eyes I got this image in my head of a bunch of friends playing a crazy made up game of tennis. The idea just fit so well with the energy of the song and I thought we could make something really fun with that. Palmer (the director) did such a good job taking that first idea and making it come to life. I also love the tennis fashion and knew that the styling would look so fab! It was the best video shoot I’ve been part of! We had so much fun and everyone really gave it their all. We played some very creative tennis that day!”

Add that to the fact that Stefan Storm is in the video and we'd say this is all well worth a follow: Twitter and Facebook would be a good start.
