We did suspect that John Newman's post-Rudimental solo 'work' would take the singer on a one-way trip to boretown but, as usual, we were wrong.

'Love Me Again', which we heard for the first time while making some dinner yesterday evening, is a Supremes-inspired modern soulbeast with a rave pianos, exquisite production and an almost indecent quantity of top-drawer pop hooks.

The hands-in-the-lasers middle eight is 'quite something'.

This has to be a Number One single, right?
