Zedd didn't know it was Ariana Grande singing when he decided he wanted to work with her

  • June 24, 2014
  • Brad O'Mance

ZeddZedd's been chatting away about how this collaboration with Ariana Grande came about and basically it all happened after he heard her singing at a showcase thing and told his people to 'hook it up'.

"I played a little show with her a few months ago and I heard her voice and didn't know who it was because it was a Universal showcase with about fifteen artists, so it could have been anyone," he mused to Billboard.

"I mentioned to my team that I wanted to work with whoever is on the stage right now. It turned out to be Ariana so I told my team that I wanted to work with her."

Then what happened, Zedd?

"A month later we randomly got connected and then got to make the song."

'Randomly got connected' probably involved managers and A&Rs and shitloads of emails, but anyway.

"Her voice is super-recognizable, it has a unique texture," he mused, "and really, that's all I'm looking for in a singer, is to have a voice that is really special and different from other voices you hear everyday."

Poor Mariah.
