EXCLUSIVE: Sam Smith has won the BBC Sound Of 2014 poll

  • January 9, 2014
  • Brad O'Mance

Sam SmithSam Smith has won the BBC Sound of 2014 poll.

Popjustice can (almost certainly, barring a Q1 miracle for FKA Twigs) break this exclusive news following the announcement today that Ella Eyre is this year's BBC Sound Poll runner-up, ahead of Banks in third, Sampha in fourth and Popjustice favourite George Ezra in fifth place.

While the actual final result will be confirmed tomorrow morning, why not have an extra day of congratulating Sam today? Click here to tweet 'Congratulations on your surprise win!' to Sam Smith.

Each year the BBC Sound Poll asks a panel of journalists, radio, TV professionals and tastemakers to gaze into their crystal balls, probe the dark recesses of their contact books and use some good old fashioned instinct to predict future successes and nominate the artist they feel should be showcased to the British public over the next twelve months.

In 2012 Sam Smith appeared on Disclosure's Radio 1 A‑listed Disclosure hit single 'Latch', and in 2013 he hit Number One on Naughty Boy's 'La La La', which became the year's fastest-selling Number One and was YouTube's most watched video of the year.
