Alicia Keys is going to work on Broadway

  • June 28, 2011
  • Brad O'Mance

Alicia Keys will co-produce the Broadway production of Stick Fly, an award-winning play about an affluent black family.

The play, written by Lydia R Diamond, is to premiere at the Lyceum Theatre in December, with previews taking place in November.

Keys — who is currently embarking on a mini-tour to help promote the reissue of her debut, 'Songs In A Minor' — said in a statement: "I'm passionate about this play because it is so beautifully written and portrays Black America in a way that we don't often get to see in entertainment. I know it will touch all audiences, who will find a piece of themselves somewhere inside this house."

The house in question is in Martha's Vineyard, the scene for a weekend family break that tangles, according to a description in this MTV article, "class, race and identity politics" with "food, drink and Trivial Pursuit". Amazing.

Keys goes on to tell MTV News that she's very happy she's had a child. "I feel like I'm definitely more creative," she said of life post-baby. "I'm more thoughtful about my plans and the things that I do, so overall everything is like a hundred times better."
