Run for the hills — Calvin Goldspink's got an acoustic guitar and he's not afraid to use it

  • January 27, 2009
  • Popjustice

We don't actually think this is the real Calvin Goldspink who wanted to be Popjustice's friend on MySpace. Calvin is typical of that sort of ex-pop band member whose annoying and slightly deranged 'fans' set up a procession of fake MySpace, Facebook and Bebo accounts, all appearing to be official, as if somehow confusing any potential fan or follower is in some way 'a good thing'. This certainly looks like his official site.

Anyway, despite this MySpace profile claiming to be the official one, this is the MySpace profile which added us yesterday and actually includes Calvin's new music. The song 'Dance In The Rain' is the most listenable of the tunes on it. We suspect it is 'early days'!! (Cue barrage of emails furious ex‑S Club 8 fans screaming about it having been knocking around for ages, 'etc'.)

What would be amazing is if, after Frankie and Rochelle's Saturdays success, every single ex-member of S Club 8 was somehow back in the Top 40 by the end of this 2009, as if they were sort of sleeper agents who'd been waiting since the I Dream 'glory days' for the right time to unleash their fearsome musical skillz.

We don't think that is very likely but you never know.
