Must try harder

In yesterday's mailout we mentioned a piece of Britney's schoolwork which is being auctioned at Christie's for charity. You can place a bid here, it's for charity etc.

Here's the essay in question — evidence, basically, of how school work can suffer if you spend your entire high school life dancing around in corridors for the benefit of masturbating 40-year-olds.

We asked mailout readers what they made of the essay and one reader — a high school English teacher in the States — tells us this:

"I might have my students peer edit that (as an example of how not to write).

My plan to hold up Brit's paper as an object of ridicule might backfire, as it is an example of how you can be a total idiot and still make millions of dollars and be globally famous.

My favorite part is when she commits the error I hate most — using "loose" instead of "lose." Notice also, her teacher/tutor didn't pick up on the mistake. The sad part is she must have been vaguely proud of her writing to allow it to be seen by the public.

Essentially, she is just retelling the plot of Antigone without analyzing much. Regurgitation."

So there you have it — although
we think this, from another reader, sums things up fairly well:

"Britney is a fucking idiot. I've only just started this today and I already know more than she does. Jesus."
