Ilia Darlin: free download, reasons for amazingness, links etc etc etc

 • December 21, 2010
 • Popjustice

We meant to post about quite fascinating Greek warbler Ilia Darlin last week, when we featured her tune 'Hit Me' as a Song Of The Day. But we are posting about her now. Sometimes life is like that.

Athens-based Ilia is a self-styled — aren't they all — European answer to Lady Gaga. Well that's what everyone says about her, but perhaps that's a bit of an assumption. There's an interesting interview here with Greek Reporter in which Ilia says, "well, personally, I don’t think we have any similarities apart from the fact we’re both 'products' of our days.  I think though it’s normal because in order to understand something new, we need to compare it, categorise it in a way".

Perhaps she isn't really that much like Gaga, then. Then again…

That was the video for 'Car Crash', the single she's releasing in the UK next year. ('Hit Me' is the b‑side.)

Sometimes we ask new-to-Popjustice popstars to send us five reasons they are amazing. Ilia seemed like a good candidate for this sort of treatment, so we asked for a list and here's what she sent back.

FIVE REASONS I AM AMAZING
By Ilia Darlin

1. "I'm from the mountain Olympus where the Greek gods used to hang out."
2. "I preach the P.O.P. The power of the…"
3. "I want to inspire other people to be amazing and fearless. 'I kill my lovers when they lie…'"
4. "Your parents won't like me. Unless they like cock-prints on their shorts."
5. "I can make you dance! 7th of January at Monto Water Rats, 8.00."

We don't really know what Number 2 means but as a whole this list of reasons is fairly convincing.

Anyway, do you fancy 'Car Crash' as a free download ahead of its release next year? Ilia has given the thumbs up for Popjustice viewers to grab a free 'n' amazing MP3 of the tune.

THIS IS A LINK TO THAT MP3 WE JUST MENTIONED.

Hurrah.
