Future pop singles and their potential hit factor: Part 3

  • January 29, 2008
  • Popjustice

It is still a quiet old time of year but let's not think about now, let's think more about what is still to come in 2008.

Here is a list of future pop releases and scurrilous predictions of how each may fare in the chart world.

Hot Chip 'Ready For The Floor'

There is something slightly un-sellable about Hot Chip singles,
although had this made it onto the Kylie album it probably wouldn't have even
been made a single, despite it being 8/10 amazing.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 31

Atomic Kitten 'Anyone Who Had a Heart'

The unspeakably shit factor of this single is balanced only
by the level of complete disinterest the world has in a Atomic Kitten comeback.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 120

Rihanna 'Don't Stop the Music'

We can predict with some accuracy that this will be a big
hit single.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number Two

Feist 'My Moon My Man'

If she does not tack this onto an advert for an electronic
gadget pronto, Feist may find herself needing to live off '1234' for a bit
longer.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 43

David Jordan 'Sun Goes Down'

We can, with some confidence, predict that this will not find
itself shelved at the last minute a la 'Place In My Heart'.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 12

Mark Brown feat Sarah
Cracknell 'The Journey Continues'

The success of this single will depend largely on the
financial situation of club goers and fans of hippy 90s pop music.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 8

The Feeling 'I Thought it Was Over'

Do people want to dance to singles by The Feeling? A bit.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 10

Kanye West 'Homecoming'

This will hopefully not indicate a hip-hop direction for the
next Coldplay album or indeed, another Coldplay album at all.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 3

Goldfrapp 'A&E'

A big on Radios One and Two. The album will sell by the proverbial bucket and recording a retirement fund record was almost certainly part of the grand plan.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 6

Kylie Minogue 'Wow'

Even Kylie has forgotten she is releasing this since she has
been off promoting 'In My Arms' all over the shop. It will probably do alright, after all, it has spent long enough bouncing around the coveted number
27 spot.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 10

Mark Ronson 'Just'

Boring.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 23

Richard Fleeshman 'Hold Me Close'

Him of the telly. You know the one. ITV. Soap opera. Goth. Soapstar Superstar. No? Anyone?

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 84

Operator Please 'Get What You Want'

Not as popular as they ought to be, but then that is because
they are not Scouting For Girls.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 62

Estelle 'American Boy'

No matter how many times people are told that Estelle is
famous and popular, the numbers never seem to add up. Kanye West is on this
single though, so maybe that will help matters.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 75

Alicia Keys 'Like You'll Never See Me Again'

BORING.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 12

Daft Punk 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' (Live)

A cash in but quite amazing nonetheless, and as much 'Around
The World' as it is 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 57

Foals 'Cassius'

2008's big indie hopefuls. This is not as good as their last
single which no one bought so they are technically screwed but people might be
more interested now that the BBC announced themselves as fans.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 32

Alphabeat 'Fascination'

THIS IS A NUMBER ONE SINGLE.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 14

The Ting Tings 'Great DJ'

Pop music for fans of indie music – but not in the same way
as, for example, The Wombats might be considered.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 50

Roisin Murphy 'You Know Me Better'

This is not 'Movie Star'.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 62

The B‑52's 'Funplex'

Some older people who think they know more about good pop
music than they do, considering they inflicted 'Love Shack' on the world.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 41

Palladium 'White Lady'

Hopefully their big tour with Alphabeat will pay off.

Popjustice's Psychic Prediction:

Number 54

Wideboys feat Shaznay Lewis 'Dadio'

This might be interesting but at this point in time, we know
nothing more about this than that it exists…

So there you have it.
