Leona Lewis thinks anyone can cover any song they want so fuck off (not her exact words)

  • December 15, 2011
  • Brad O'Mance

Leona Lewis has told BBC Newsbeat that as long as "it's coming from a genuine place" anyone can cover any song they like.

Referring to the 'controversy' surrounding her cover of the Johnny Cash cover of the Nine Inch Nails song 'Hurt', Leona said: "People write music and the music is out there for people to interpret it how they want to."

She also picked the song as it reflected her state of mind at the time. "But that song in particular really speaks to me. Lyrically it's a song that is very intense and has painful lyrics. It's reflective of a place where I was at. When I recorded it it was healing to get it out."

'Hurt' is currently at number 3 in the midweeks.
