Rihanna has signed up to be a Barbados Tourism Ambassador

  • June 16, 2011
  • Owen Myers

Rihanna has been revealed as a tourism ambassador for her home country of Barbados.

The three-year deal with the Barbados Tourism Authority will see Rihanna promoting the island as the perfect place to go on holiday. That is, if the sexual assault and murder of the 'Man Down' video hasn't put people off a nice break in the Caribbean.

Of the appointment, Rihanna said: "I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others, and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians."

According to a spokesperson from the tourist board, Rihanna "is known in the hearts of every Barbadian as the girl next door".

Rihanna regularly returns to her birthplace, and often tags her tweets with #BAJANarmy in a nod to her local fans.
