Showcasewatch: Beyond

  • May 4, 2006
  • Popjustice

Another day, another chandalier, another showcase — this time for 'Beyond'. There were no 'canopies', resulting in everyone getting quite drunk.

Beyond are a five-piece pop group featuring two boys and three girls. They came to Club Popjustice a few weeks ago and for that reason we have decided we like them. We also like them for their impressive if slightly foolhardy disregard for the fact that it is not 1999 any more. The first song they did was quite good. There was a ballad and they sat on some stools while singing it. The Modern were there. Some other things happened. We basically didn't make any notes.

The real masterstroke of the evening was the band's cover of Cliff Richard's SAW-penned 'I Just Don't Have The Heart', which they DEDICATED TO POPJUSTICE — the greatest on-stage dedication since Scooch's 'legendary' reunion show in 2003, at which the band dedicated their cover of the theme from The Littlest Hobo to history's greatest pop music website.

Five Other Cliff Richard Songs Which Must Be Covered Immediately
1. 'We Don't Talk Any More'
2. 'A Little In Love'
3. 'Wired For Sound'
4. 'Devil Woman'
5. 'In The Country'

In fact, we 'note with interest' that the Cliff 'Platinum Collection' box set we were banging on about last year is now only £4.96 on Amazon which, for a three-CD Cliff blowout, is an offer too good to miss. Click here to buy online now.
