The week's best new releases: RABBII, Bastille, Jarryd James and more

new-music-friday-rabbii

In this week's new releases, or at least the ones that have popped up on Spotify:

  • Highly excellent duo RABBII, whose 'Chameleon' we wrote about back in March, are back with an extraordinary song that feels like the perfect spiritual (and sonic) accompaniment to Niki & The Dove's 'DJ, Ease My Mind'. An exciting release.
  • This new Jarryd James x Broods tune is a bit of a masterpiece. '1000x' may not be ten times as good as Tegan & Sara's recent '100x', but it deserves a place in the same pensivepop playlist.
  • The new Death Team single sounds like an evil version of Petite Meller, and is semi-amazing.
  • On a similar 90s rave tip: bloody hell, Chase & Status aren't messing around with the sample on their new single, are they?
  • The 'opening volley' (military term) for Bastille's v good new album is called 'Good Grief', which has to be the best song title of the week.
  • Alyssa Reid, who sang that ridicumazing half-cover of Heart's 'Alone' a few years ago and released some other things after that, unleashes a slightly perky tune in which she complains about someone "always getting lit … always talking shit".
  • As mentioned earlier this week, the Kaiser Chiefs vs Xenomania experiment has turned out rather well.
  • John Legend's done a grin-and-bear-it guest spot on the new Tiesto single.
  • LANY lose momentum a bit with their new single but are still on course to have a decent debut album.
  • Usher's decided to be The Weeknd.
  • Inspired by the 1985-themed version of Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean?' doing the rounds, Disclosure have done a song inspired by 2013. Great days weren't they?  Might be interesting at some point to know what Disclosure would sound like in 2016.

We didn't include the new song by 'Passenger', apols.
