Bits About Pop: from Shakira and Rihanna having a cuddle to Sky Ferreira getting into a bit of a muddle

  • January 31, 2014
  • Matt Hooper

BAP-2014The last of the week's BAPs are ready to go. Don't worry about not having any for the weekend; there are plenty here so stock up.

  • The Shakira/Rihanna video has premiered and it’s the subdued and reserved affair we were all expecting, as well as being mildly depressing. (Popjustice)
  • LeToya Luckett has ‘clarified’ what happened on the Beyoncé/Kelly Rowland “I’m the second lead vocalist" day. (MTV)
  • One Direction were the most popular act in the world last year but it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you that. (Billboard)
  • Much-loved artiste James Arthur sold loads of tickets to his tour and got a plaque to commemorate the occasion. (Twitter)
  • In other artists selling (or not selling) tickets news, Miley Cyrus’ ‘BANGERZ’ tour isn’t doing very well. (Forbes)
  • Lots of boybands (and Neon Jungle) are supporting McBusted in Hyde Park. (AXS)
  • Disclosure, Katy B and London Grammar (amongst loads of other people) are performing at this years Parklife Weekender. (Parklife Weekender)
  • Jessie Ware is literally “working hard in the studio (x)”. (Facebook)
  • Hold on to your hats: The Pierces are BACK! (The song is actually really good.) (YouTube)
  • Kylie’s ‘Into The Blue’ music video experience will premiere in three days. If the teaser image is anything to go by, the narrative will feature Kylie trying to cure a migraine. (Instagram)
  • There's also a remix of 'Into The Blue'. (Popjustice)
  • Pixie Lott has done a cover of ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher’ and has popped the results (complete with a black and white filter) online. (YouTube)
  • She also has a new song called ‘Point of No Return’ and it sounds like this. (YouTube)
  • Neon Jungle are giving away the acoustic version of ‘Braveheart’ in exchange for some details. (Neon Jungle’s mailing list)
  • Example is going on ‘tour’ (well he’s only visiting three cities in one weekend but still). (Twitter)
  • Clean Bandit are almost certainly going to be Number 1 this weekend (the Top 5 hasn’t changed at all since Wednesday). Further down the chart, Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ is set to outpeak ‘Unconditionally’. (Digital Spy)
  • DATE FOR THE DIARY: Zendaya’s ‘Replay’ is out here on 6 April. (iTunes)
  • Alex Kapranos (of Franz Ferdinand fame) reckons the new Paloma Faith single sounds a lot like ‘Take Me Out’ (the Franz Ferdinand song and not the dating show — now that would be an interesting listen). (Twitter)
  • In other ‘your song sounds a bit too much like mine’ news, a judge has ruled that Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Good Time’ sounds a bit too much like another song. (Digital Spy)
  • After literally a couple of days of teasing, the new One Direction video has arrived. (Popjustice)
  • Azealia Banks thinks she’s the best female rapper in the world (of course she does). (Twitter)
  • Kelis’ ‘Jerk Ribs’ has been given the remix treatment by Mount Kimbie. (SoundCloud)
  • Róisín Murphy has something new coming out this year. (Facebook)
  • The Pitbull-only version of his World Cup single is here. (Popjustice)
  • And finally, Sky Ferreira got into a bit of a palava at her gig last night. (Twitter)

And just for old time's sake:

What a song.
