Dear iTunes, your new social network is potentially amazing and we are prepared to give it a go.

Yes, we know the world needs another social network like it needs another Sugababes album but iTunes' new Ping network feels like it could become pretty amazing.

Here's the Popjustice profile on Ping.

If you've used the internet in the last three years you'll immediately get an idea of how it works — you create your Ping account and profile and things you do within iTunes (like rating or buying or reviewing music) appears on your profile.

Obviously you then follow other people on Ping and their own ratings and musical comings and goings appear on your screen so you can see what they're up to.

We suspect one of the main benefits here is to artists who will be able to directly flog iTunes tracks to fans within iTunes, but for fans it feels like an intuitive and fairly effortless addition to what is already the best music store and library software on the face of the planet.
