Boring Italo disco compilation alert

Three quick facts regarding Italo disco.

Exciting news, then, that a new compilation called 'Disco Italia — Essential Italo Disco Classics 1977–1985' is out this week, right? WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL. Hats off to Strut records who have somehow managed to put together a compilation of the 13 most boring and worthy 'Italo' tracks ever recorded, seemingly intent on putting across the cool and utterly joyless side of pop's most carefree subgenre. So the album totally misses the entire point of Italo which is that it is/was BRILLIANTLY STUPID AND THROWAWAY which in turn, as per Ye Ancient Rules Of Propere Pop, is what makes all the songs so brilliant to listen to 25 years later.

Really, trust us, this is the most disappointing and tryhard compilation of the 21st century. You're better off with this, this or any of the numerous unpretentious and hangup-free alternatives available for purchase. If you do want to hear some of the bits of Strut's effort, some of the songs and read some boring words at http://www.strut-records.com/discoitalia.
