The Brits launch 2008

  • January 15, 2008
  • Popjustice

We were there, and we took some pictures…

The Brits. It happens every year and whatever happens people  have a bit of a moan. This year's might be quite good though, and it was launched at London's The Roundhouse — IT'S LITERALLY ROUND — with various stars (ie Editors and Bat For Lashes) in attendance.

The whole thing was being filmed with Reggie Yates and Kelly Osbourne presenting.

Here are some pictures we took. Hold onto your hats — there's some serious 'reportage' coming…

This is the 'press run'. It's where popstars run away from the press. There's an indie band having its picture taken here. We can't see who they are but we are sure they're having a very exciting evening. It's preferable to another night out in Camden. Oh, hang on…

Inside, 'the music industry' mills around while loads of people from the Brit school are penned in at the front, ready to whoop and holler for the cameras when they are told to do so. Somewhere in this group of people is the next Adele. Or, perhaps, just the new Katie Melua.

Down to business: it's the bar. This is the bar at the 'Academy Reception'. The 'Academy Reception' was where people who are on the Brits panel could hang out with each other and talk about the future of EMI. Contrary to what the above picture might suggest, only 78% of those in the 'Academy Reception' were wearing brown jackets.

Look at all these people! They're all very excited  because the Brits nominations are about to be announced, except most of the people here have already received the nominations on a dodgy email. The room is 'abuzz' with news that The Hoosiers will be singing a song on stage later. It's all very exciting.

WOO! It's starting. This is a big television screen with the Brits logo thing on it.

Kelly Osbourne is in a little booth introducing the show with Reggie Yates. This is the introduction they use at every Brits — they just change the year.

OMG Editors are on stage.

We pressed it and nothing happened.

Everyone in this picture was very excited about what was happening on stage, but we weren't paying attention to what was happening on stage because we were taking this photograph of everyone being very excited about what was happening on stage.

The free bar stopped being free at one point. It was all very distressing. There was also a distinct lack of canopies. Look, we know the music industry is 'in crisis' and everything but COME ON. In the background you can see the dreaded sum of '£10.80' on the till. :(

This is what was happening outside the main area while Bat For Lashes was singing a song.

For some, the excitement was all too much. One of The Hoosiers actually pissed himself on the stairs.

If Guy Hands focus grouped drinking habits, this is what would happen.

A boring photo of nothing really happening.

They had screens outside showing what was happening, a bit like Live 8 but without all the stuff about boring politics.

BINWATCH 1: Kelly Osbourne's dressing room.

After hanging around for over 40 minutes, Editors finally get to have their picture taken with The Lovely Kim Dawson from The Daily Star.

BINWATCH 2: This bin has been cruelly ignored all night.

The Hoosiers talk to someone about something.

This is Mark Ronson wearing a nice suit. He came and said hello after this picture was taken and then we said something along the lines of 'we're not here doing interviews really', and we think he might have thought that was slightly rude because then he just walked off.

Why is one of these seats red?

Well there you go. That was the Brits launch.
