Things we can learn from Greg James' interview with Lady Gaga: a 'liveblog' of sorts

  • February 28, 2011
  • Popjustice

Greg James is about to interview Lady Gaga on his Radio 1 show. (Listen online here.) We have decided to sort of liveblog what happens.

Like so:

3:10 The interview is ten minutes late.

3:11 She's on! "All of the UK is listening," Lady Gaga says. She clearly hasn't seen the latest RAJAR figures.

3:12 "What does Lady Gaga do on a Monday morning?" Sits in bed, drinks coffee is the answer. Things turn pervy when Greg asks Gaga what she's wearing. (Black underwear is the answer to that.)

3:12 EGG CHAT. She's talking about rebirth. "In life you're not born just once, you're born over and over again." Being in the egg provided a good chance, she says, so consider the meaning of 'Born This Way'. IT'S 4THEGAYZ LADY GAGA EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.

3:14 Greg James is playing an egg sound effect. "It sounds like you may have exposed your yolk too soon," Lady Gaga observes.

3:14 Greg James is now telling Lady Gaga to shave her head and ride a unicycle.

3:15 Lady Gaga is now being asked about whether she will be the Godmother to Elton John's baby. Lady Gaga is declining to comment. Greg James then says something about how amazing it would be to be able to say your Godmother was Lady Gaga. He is doing that thing where he asks a question not because he is interested in the answer but because he wants to make an amusing comment following the answer. You would NEVER catch us doing that sort of thing.

3:16 Lady Gaga says she likes Pet Shop Boys, Elton John and Adele. Greg James is telling her that she might like people like Steve Brookstein. It's funny because actually she probably wouldn't like them, but she is from America so she doesn't know that! 'LOL'.

3:17 Very awkward pause.

3:18 The 'Born This Way' video is inspired by Salvador Dali and Francis Bacon, "the surrealist painters". As opposed to Salvador Dali and Francis Bacon the plumbers, then.

3:19 'Born This Way' is for "all people", she says. ie Not just 4THEGAYZ like we said above. Mind you that much is obvious from the lyrics — our original comment was for comic effect.

3:20 Greg James is asking Lady Gaga about Madonna and whether she has been an influence on Lady Gaga. Yes is the answer. Lady Gaga appears to refer to Madonna as a "90s artist".

3:22 Lady Gaga has just talked quite interestingly about the sound of 'Born This Way'  etc etc etc. Sadly we were too busy reading an email from Helen Bownass to make a note of what Lady Gaga actually said. But take our word for it, it was interesting.

3:23 Chat about Twitter. In a nutshell: it's amazing. (It is indeed amazing.)

3:24 Greg James is trying to push Midsomer Murders on Lady Gaga. (?!)

3:25 Gaga utters the phrase "my new single 'Born This Way'. The interview may now end.

And that's it. The video for 'Born This Way' will be on YouTube in 35 minutes…
