The new Calvin Harris single: pretty bloody good

  • January 26, 2009

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YWjOYfUORk

Pete Tong gave the new Calvin Harris single, 'I'm Not Alone', its first proper airing on Friday night the track sounds incredible. Calvo's label have been going around busily removing YouTube rips this morning so for the time being you might have to make do with the clip, above, that we played you the other week.

The best bit is clearly when it explodes into the amazing, poppers o'clock, acceptably mid-to-late-90s "welcome-to-the-rave-o-dome" arms-aloft moment, but the build up, which finds Calvin doing what he describes as his "Grandaddy meets Coldplay" bit, works brilliantly and the result is two very different types of pop songs all in one.

It is a shame really that Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems didn't get the first play, because we have a feeling this is a 'fat one' that would have 'rolled' rather well between the weekly plays of 'Son Of A Gun', 'Don't You Want Me' and 'Insomnia'. Oh well. Poor old Dave.

Before Pete Tong played the track he had a quick chat with Calvin about the single and Calvin was saying that he hasn't finished his album yet and that 'I'm Not Alone' is just a stopgap thing so that people don't forget he exists. Just an idea Calvin but perhaps if you spent a little less time watching 'Location, Location, Location' AND THEN BLOODY TWITTERING ABOUT IT you might have finished his new LP by now. 'Just an idea.'
