Think of all the time and effort that went into finely tuning the X Factor format for this year's reswizzled audition process — those long and tortuous debates about whether or not to have a live audience, the stand-up arguments over the precise smugness of Demot's haircut. And all it really comes down to is a girl falling over. It's why You've Been Framed! will always be better than The Wire and might even top the legendary 'Sharon Osbourne collides with door' moment two minutes into this.

It's funny, isn't it, how the ridiculous production values of The X Factor make things like Popstars: The Rivals — in this case only seven years old — look like relics from 1980s Poland. Also, and we know that many of you will have been shouting this at your own televisions over the last few weeks, but why on earth is Daniel Pearce (rear, right) attempting to put himself through all this yet again on this year's The X Factor? Why? WHY???
