10 Years Since… the release of 'Wannabe'

  • July 8, 2006
  • Popjustice

The ultimate truckdriver
song. Number One in 37 countries including America, where it topped every
Billboard chart for which it was eligible, Australia, where it
topped the charts for 11 weeks, and the UK, where it was Number One for almost two months. 1.27 million copies sold
in the UK; six million copies sold worldwide. The best-selling single by a female
group of all time.

(Translation: marginally more successful than the last Dannii single.)

Let's have a look at the Spice Girls performing it on Top Of The Pops.

Utterly ludicrous and completely amazing.

It's interesting, isn't it, that in the above clip the sound has been encoded slightly out of sync with the video — meaning that Victoria's hapless miming appears to be almost in sync.
