New entries on the chart of truth…

  • May 15, 2006
  • Popjustice

Just a quick update on the songs we've chucked into the Popjustice Chart Of Truth. Remember, viewers: because the Chart Of Truth is the only chart not to be affected by text voting, downloads, airplay or record sales, it's still the only chart that counts.

* Mark Goodier voice *

The 'highest new entry' is 'Strange' by The Feeling, while Alesha Dixon's 'Lipstick' climbs into the Top 10. Muse's 'Supermassive Black Hole' sounds like the Scissor Sisters produced by Xenomania so pops in to say hello at Number 13, and the slightly mental 'Black Gloves' by Goose 'debuts' at Number 19.

Black Box's 'Ride On Time' still doesn't sound quite as old as it actually is, but it's 17 years old and, therefore, old enough to be tampered with. The Hi-Tack mixes on Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation 2006' are just completely amazing, and Bimbo Jones' 'Harlem One Stop' sounds a bit like 'Ride On Time' while mysteriously and amazingly being a different song all together.

Finally, Maria Lawson's still deciding on her debut single but we reckon it should be 'Sleepwalking' — a great song featuring a massive Chi-lites 'Have You Seen Her?' sample. Unfortunately the lady who came to play us The Maria Stuff took the CD away with her, so we had to go onto iTunes to download MC Hammer's 'Have You Seen Her?' to fill the gap. This online shopping spree ended in disaster when we 'accidentally' purchased FIVE different versions of the song including an amazing one by Julian Beeston, an ill-advised one by the (ahem) 'Karaoke Allstars', and a better-best-forgotten interpretation from Tony Hadley. As you can see, life is never simple here at Popjustice HQ.

We've also heard a song which could replace Nelly Furtado's 'Maneater' at the top of the chart, but we can't tell you about that quite yet…
