British popstars did quite well at selling albums globally last year

  • June 6, 2013
  • Brad O'Mance

AdeleSingers from the British isles have achieved the highest ever share of global album sales, figures from the British Phonographic Industry have revealed.

People like Adele (obviously), One Direction and Ed Sheeran helped UK acts gain 13.3% of worldwide sales in 2012, up from 12.6% the previous year.

Your friend and ours Geoff Taylor, who is of course the BPI Chief Executive, said: "Music is fundamental to Britain's identity as a nation and the world is singing with us."

In the UK itself, British acts represented a 51.9% share of album sales, which is quite good too.

This is all very well but you'd still rather live in Sweden, wouldn't you.
