People have sort of stopped buying albums in the UK

Story filed by Brad O'Mance on April 16, 2012

Album sales in the UK last week were the lowest of any seven day period in the 21st century.

According to Music Week, sales amounted to 1,446,218, which, as well being a new low for the 641 weeks since 2000, is down 27.62% week-on-week and 23.19% year-on-year.

On the album chart itself Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ continued its rapid decline, dropping from Number 7 to 13 with sales of just 7,194 copies, while Adele’s ’21′ returned to Number One, saving the music industry yet again by spending its 23rd week at the ‘top spot’ with 22,235 sales.
