‘On air on sale’ aims to cure impatience

Story filed by Brad O'Mance on January 17, 2011

Two of the UK’s biggest record labels, Sony and Universal, have unveiled a new singles download policy they hope will satisfy hungry pop fans.

‘On air on sale’  basically means instead of hearing a song on the radio you like and having to wait six weeks to actually buy it you’ll be able to buy it instantly.

The move, labels hope, will deter piracy and cater to what people are calling the “X Factor generation”, ie consumers who want things immediately, even if it is a Matt Cardle single.
