Gossip were going to name their album after boring sex

Gossip’s new album was going to be named ‘Vanilla’ (as in regular, by-the-book rumpo).

“It’s very gay, it’s very lesbian. It’s such a cool word,” Beth tells Attitude magazine.

Expanding on the “bad-ass” title, she said she was inspired by Rihanna’s songs to rebel and choose something more conservative as an antidote. “You know how Rihanna was like ‘S&M’?,” she pondered. “I’m like vanilla. What’s wrong with vanilla?”

Something was obviously wrong with ‘Vanilla’ as they ended up going with ‘A Joyful Noise’ in the end, but we thought we’d pass on this fascinating little anecdote anyway.
