Listeners of XFM have given Florence Welsh the accolade of Greatest Woman In ‘Rock’.
The pop singer beat competition from Alison Mosshart of The Kills, who finished in a commendable second place, followed by Skin of Skunk Anansie fame, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Debbie Harry rounding off the Top 5.
With an apparent straight face, Florence said that being a woman in rock was all about “perverting the idea of femininity – managing to be vulnerable and powerful at the same time”.
