“Rita is the pop star of the moment, the Beeb are delighted,” mused the curiously well-connected source. “They think she’s going to be a ratings hit and even more popular than Kylie.”

He or she went on: “It has taken months of negotiations but Rita is happy and thinks the show is a much better fit for her than The X Factor.”

(Rita was apparently once offered £1m to judge on The X Factor.)

“She’ll still be able to get on with her music and it won’t take over her life as much as The X Factor.”

Mind you, a spokesperson for The Voice production firm Wall To Wall took a partial piss on the above-mentioned chips by being all “It is too early to confirm speculation”, “An announcement will be made in due course” about the whole thing, so think twice before ordering that job lot of bunting off Amazon.

NOBODY PANIC: Cobra Starship are back. And they’ve brought Icona Pop along for the ride.

The ‘Kiss My Sass’ hitmakers will release their new single ‘Never Been In Love’ on August 25 and as you can see from the ‘cover art’ to your right, the song does indeed feature the delicate tones of Icona Pop.

Apparently their fifth (!) album will be released later this year.

Earlier this week Sky Ferreira confirmed she’s working on “album two” (album six) and now a picture has emerged (appeared on Instagram) of her in a studio environment.

The picture was taken by Justin Raisen who, as well as working on Charli XCX’s ‘True Romance’ album also co-produced ‘Night Time, My Time’, and features ‘Symphony Of The Nymph’ hitmaker Ariel Pink.

As you will surely remember, Sky and Ariel Pink produced this festive banger late last year.

MNEK’s been working on the new Madonna album. http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/mneks-been-working-on-the-new-madonna-album/130129/ http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/mneks-been-working-on-the-new-madonna-album/130129/#comments Fri, 22 Aug 2014 08:33:55 +0000 http://www.popjustice.com/?p=130129 MNEKAccording to Diplo, MNEK’s also been helping out on the new Madonna album. (!)

In a chat with Billboard, which has been ‘teased’ here, Diplo says some stuff about how his recording sessions have gone so far, but also reveals that MNEK, alongside Ariel Rechtshaid, has been helping out with the verses to a new song Madonna rather likes.

Elsewhere, Diplo says the following about a song the two of them have been working on:

“One [song] is super weird. Late one night in the studio we got a little bit drunk and she improvised a little hook and we made a song out of it. I think it’s going to be a breakthrough if she can manage to get everything together and get it out properly.”

We also learn that Madonna’s drink of choice is rosé wine, so please update your spreadsheets accordingly.

Whoever is picked to perform at the Super Bowl halftime thing – and rumours are it’s between Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay – might have to pay for the privilege, according to a new report.

The Wall Street Journal (as quoted here) are saying that those artists’ ‘camps’ have been asked if they’d be willing make some sort of financial contribution to the NFL, with one option being a slice of their post-Super Bowl tour income.

As you may remember, Beyoncé announced her Mrs Carter, non-album supporting ‘jaunt’ straight after her singsong.

A spokeswoman from the NFL declined to comment on any of the contract stuff and had this to say when asked who on earth would be doing next year’s one: “When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it.”

Like they did with Kesha that time.

Having a chat about it all to Pure Volume, Drozd said the following words in the following order:

“We’re going to try to make a record with her if we can work this out because we’ve gotten together with her a few times in a recording studio and she’s fucking badass.”

“She’s a total pro and sings like a bird,” he continued. “She’s very patient and did take after take and was totally laid back. I’m hoping that we can help her make a record that she wants to make for the next phase of her career.”

(The current musical phase is fine thanks Steve.)

Robyn’s said some things about A NEW EP http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/robyns-said-some-things-about-a-new-ep/130111/ http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/robyns-said-some-things-about-a-new-ep/130111/#comments Wed, 20 Aug 2014 17:49:30 +0000 http://www.popjustice.com/?p=130111 Robyn

Robyn’s been talking about some of her forthcoming music.

Basically there’s an EP she made with the late Christian Falk and that should hopefully be released in the near future.

She also mentions working with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

In an interview with Time (Röyksopp are involved too but are pretty much making up numbers for most of the interview), she was asked about the new songs she’s been playing live and if any of them were ready to be released, to which she said “some of them are actually finished and mixed” (amazing), adding: “I’ve been working on this EP with Markus [Jägerstedt], who’s in my band, and a producer by the name of Christian Falk, who is this Swedish guy that I worked with for many years, since I was like 15 – we worked on my first album, even.”

“He tragically and very sadly passed away two weeks ago. He was sick for a while before he died, and that’s also one of the reasons I wanted to make sure that we got that material out there, before he actually disappeared from the face of this earth.”

“So he was able to be a part of that a little bit before he went. It’s also changed the songs a little bit, me and Markus are still working on it. It’s going to be strange, but very healing, to finish the record without Christian.”

Let’s have a listen to the last pop masterpiece they made together shall we.

Rita Ora’s album will be out in January 2015 by the looks of things http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/rita-oras-album-will-be-out-in-january-2015-by-the-looks-of-things/130066/ http://www.popjustice.com/thenews/rita-oras-album-will-be-out-in-january-2015-by-the-looks-of-things/130066/#comments Wed, 20 Aug 2014 09:33:52 +0000 http://www.popjustice.com/?p=130066 Rita ora

It looks like Rita Ora’s new album will now be one of the big #Q1 releases in 2015, ie it’s not coming out in November 2014 as originally planned.

Having a chat with someone at the launch of some new perfume or other (as quoted here), the ‘Awkward’ hitmaker was asked when we could expect the album and she replied:

“Next year, January.”

We’re assuming the fact that she was in a studio recently still recording with will.i.am is an important factor in this decision and probably the whole Calvin Harris thing hasn’t helped much either but she should have thought about that before she [REDACTED REDACTED OH CHRIST THIS BIT IS SO REDACTED YOU WOULD NOT EVEN BELIEVE IT].

Maybe the January thing is only true in America and everything is still all systems go in the UK. We will just have to wait and see what surprises the world of pop throws our way.
