The elephant in the room here is that 'Vacation' - the first release from Alphabeat's third album - is a mediocre Alphabeat song. We've heard them do this before, and we've heard them do it better.
HOWEVER.
A mediocre Alphabeat song is still better than the best songs by most pop acts, and it is alright because we've heard bigger and better things still to come from 'The Beat'.
We feel a bit like we've kicked our favourite dog here AND THEN MADE IT WEAR A STUPID HAT AND THEN BUMMED IT but, well, tough love is still love. Some would say it's the best kind of love. RIGHT?
